Trade Ticket Formats
A trade ticket is a standardized record used to process, confirm, and settle a trade. While instrument-specific details differ across equities, bonds, and derivatives, every trade ticket format is built on top of a shared foundation of fields. These foundational fields are considered mandatory because, without any one of them, the trade cannot be reliably matched, confirmed, or settled — no matter which instrument is being traded.
Mandatory Economic Fields
Mandatory economic fields are the key trade details required for accurate processing and settlement, present on every trade ticket regardless of asset class.
They include:
These nine fields form the minimum data set that clearing corporations, custodians, and back-office systems expect on any trade record. A ticket missing even one — say, currency on a cross-border trade, or counterparty on any trade — cannot move forward to confirmation, since there would be no way to verify who owes what, to whom, and in what currency.

Why This Matters
Mandatory economic fields are the reason a trade ticket for a share, a bond, and a derivative can all flow through the same clearing and settlement infrastructure — the instrument-specific details differ, but the core economic information every system needs stays consistent.
